But in truth, for serious non-techies starting without a clue, no. How can we become Adobe fanatics and buy everything for big bucks if they don't supply beginner-oriented help? I imagine I'll be shot down and get told that there are ample opportunities here to learn everything from the bottom up. They get it, and can't imagine why the failing reader doesn't.

They can't grasp what the floundering reader is missing, because it feels like second nature to them. This occurs with reading teachers all the time. It's like pulling teeth to learn the basics, as their instructions leave out integral steps and how-to's that those who already get it or are naturals simply intuit. I hate to say it, but it seems to me that Adobe doens't really pay much attention to absolute newbies to their products. Maybe the manual I use for v5.5 might be a starting point unless the basics of Captivate v7 is way different from the basics of Captivate v5.5. Not sure if there is anything out there as a "step-by-step" beginners guide for v7 - I really doubt it and for sure Adobe dont offer anything along these lines. The best way for this is to have a manual next to you for guidance and quick reference.įor this reason, I purchased The Definitive Guide Captivate v3 and The Definitive Guide Captivate v4, both by Brenda Huettner and then E-Learning Uncovered Captivate v5.5 by Diane Elkins and Desiree Pinder.įrom these publications, and with the great help you get from this forum, I have reached a "steady walking pace" level of knowledge with Captivate v5.5 Yes - Adobe do provide a full user manual and yes - there are loads of on-line videos, but there are many of use who need to have their hand held and guided step by step until we are steady enough on our own feet to start walking and then running by ourselves. I thought Adobe would have thought about this and created such a guide that would have been included in the price of purchase, but alas that is not the case. Ever since I started working with Captivate (v3) I too have tried to find a "step-by-step" guide to getting started with Captivate.
